The Lakeland area boasts literally thousands of lakes, hundreds of streams and rivers and millions of acres of forest land, with easy access to the vast Chequamegon and Nicolet National forests and the pristine Northern Highland - American Legion State Forest.

This emphasis on outdoor resources allows visitors to pursue a wide variety of recreational activities throughout the year. For example, the abundance of crystal clear water beckons fishing enthusiasts, boaters, kayakers and canoeists alike.

The Northwoods is also home to a large number of groomed trails for hiking, biking and birding during the spring, summer and fall months, and cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and snowmobiling in the winter.

In addition, the area’s 16 golf courses also provide a challenging experience for all, from the novice to the most experienced golfer.

When the weather is too inclement for outdoor pursuits, visitors enjoy eating at the area’s fantastic restaurants, or shopping at small, personal shops.

Attending Lac du Flambeau Ojibwe pow wows, Nicolet Technical College musical performances and theatre productions at Northern Lights Playhouse are some of the area’s popular cultural activities, as well.
